National Gallery of Canada CEO, Marc Mayer on the impact of Arius's Technology

Marc Mayer, the Director and CEO of the National Gallery of Canada, introduces a pioneering collaboration between the Gallery, Arius Technology, and Verus Art. He highlights the use of Arius's cutting-edge 3D scanning technology, which captures every detail of priceless artworks, allowing for the creation of high-fidelity, textured replicas. These replicas are instrumental in extending the reach of the Gallery's collection, particularly in remote schools and communities where original art cannot be easily accessed. Mayer emphasizes the educational potential of these replicas, noting that they provide tactile experiences for individuals who may otherwise be unable to engage with art in a traditional way, such as those with visual impairments. This initiative not only enriches the educational landscape but also preserves the integrity and accessibility of cultural heritage through innovative technology.
The collaboration also supports the Gallery's educational programs, as a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these replicas is reinvested into outreach and education efforts. This ensures that the benefits of this advanced technology are felt across Canada, making art more inclusive and accessible to all.

The National Gallery of Canada's Director of Conservation and Research on Working with Arius Technology and Verus Art

Hear from the National Gallery of Canada's Director of Conservation and Research as he reflects on his experience working closely with Arius Technology and Verus Art to reproduce some of the world's most precious masterpieces. Stephen Gritt discusses the evolution of Arius' 3D scanning technology and the National Gallery of Canada's collaboration with the Arius team on the development of safety mechanisms for the scanning easel. Arius digitized some of the Gallery's collection including works by great masters, like Van Gogh and Monet. The Arius Digital Master Files (ADMF™) act as 3D renders of each painting, providing the Gallery digital back-ups of the scanned artworks. The ADMF files were also used to create limited editions of high-fidelity, textured replications with royalties from each sale supporting the Gallery's education and outreach programs.

ARIUS: alta Creative Studio x STALE AMSTERDAM

Turning Back Time with 3D Digital Restoration

In collaboration with the National Gallery of Canada, we used our pioneering mapping and elevated printing processes to digitize and restore one of Monet's masterpieces - without even touching the original painting.Being able to create a digital blueprint of a painting allows conservators to take a closer look at the brushstrokes, pigments and materials of a painting, monitoring signs of aging and deterioration like never before. This advance in technology also allows for restoration to be made digitally and in printed form - without needing to even touch the original painting - helping preserve and protect such treasures for generations to come.
